After decades of working in the family courts with families enmeshed in high conflict private law battles about post separation arrangements for children I experienced first-hand the damage and heartbreak of so many adults and children.  Although I developed an effective solution focussed way of engaging with families, helping them through seemingly intractable difficulties there were times when I knew that whatever arrangements were in place the children would continue to experience an agonising conflict of loyalties.

This fictional tale is Hetty’s opportunity as a young adult to relive her experience of family breakdown.  She recognises and reflects on how inequipped she was to deal with the consequences of ongoing parental conflict.

The patterns of adult behaviour, the games adults play and Hetty’s heartbreak mirror real life.  Far from being a story of doom and despair it resonates with the enduring power of real love that lasts forever.
